Foo Fighters have announced on Twitter today a special show at the Cubby Bear in Chicago, IL, to coincide with the premiere of their HBO TV series ‘Sonic Highways’. Episode 1 of the series debuts the same night and by no coincidence the city featured in that first episode is Chicago.
The Cubby Bear has a significant role in the history of Foo Fighters and specifically Grohl, it being the location of his first real gig back in 1982 at the age of thirteen, seeing Naked Raygun at the venue.
I saw Naked Raygun back in 1982, at the Cubby Bear in Chicago. I was 13. I loved the intimacy of it; I talked to the singer and I jumped on someone’s head and I felt completely at ease with the band and the audience. It was just a bunch of people having a good time. That’s where my perspective on rock comes from. – Dave Grohl
The poster created to promote this upcoming gig has taken a clear influence from the past in design, featuring a humerus take on making it ‘secret’. Instead of changing their band name as in recent months they have instead changed the names of the band members. So, check out Jeff, Sam, Ben, Billy and Bob this coming Friday.
As per the poster above the show is restricted to people aged 21 and over with tickets going on sale tomorrow via the following link:
Good luck to those trying to get tickets and for those successful, enjoy the show!
UPDATE: The show is also set to be broadcast live online via Facebook although unfortunately it seems for US fans only. See the full press release below:
