Interesting one this. The anonymous trader I got it from doesn't remember where he acquired the DAT, just that is was probably a European trader. It was labelled FM > DAT which I thought was odd, as there was no FM broadcast to my knowledge, so I assumed it was infact from the TV broadcast. So with some help from Deadmarsh I looked at the spectral view of the waveform to determine it's source. He told me an FM recording should leave a tone at around 19khz and a TV source around 14/15khz. So expecting to see the latter, neither was actually present. I opened some other sources that were definitely TV and FM just to check I wasn't missing anything but I wasn't, the tone was clear in those sources. But this, nothing. The waveform was also pretty full, no sound cut off. It was also verified 100% CDDA by TLH, so not a lossy digital broadcast.

The only conclusion I could come to then is that is from a pre-broadcast DAT of the video. If I had to guess I'd say someone managed to run a DAT from the master mixdown video and traded it out as FM > DAT to cover that up, I've seen similar things done before. But since I'm not up for just guessing gens, I've conservatively labeled this simply Pre-Broadcast Source > DAT > CDR.

Enjoy, the sound quality is excellent as you'd expect. Three tracks, "For All The Cows", "My Hero" and "Monkey Wrench" are removed from the torrent as they're officially released in various places.

Missing tracks going up soon but what do people think on this one? Agree with my interpration of this recording, pre-broadcast version of the video?

It sounds fantastic Simon, Looks like it is a pre-broadcast version of the video source as it is the same mix as the "Melkweg" bootleg. What a great find, Thanks to all involved.

Yeah I thought the same, it sounds like the video mix but shows no sign of broadcast. As I've been saying witj all these torrents the person who sent me all of these wishes to remain anonymous but I really can't thank him enough, awesome guy.

Mate, haven´t downloaded this, but it seems like you got things covered somewhat with someone else.

Here´s my opinion from what I´ve read (on Dime that is), if there is no DJ banter or any other signs of any broadcast of either FM or TV, then it should simply be labeled as SBD#x. And seeing this as probably being a VPRO or something like that, they most likely recorded the audio and video by itself, then mixed it down for tv broadcasting, in fact I doubt any TV station would do otherwise, it doesn´t seem practical.

So, IMHO, if this is longer than the video, it should be labeled as SBD, not PRO.

I see your point mate and I was in two minds myself, the only reason I kept it as PRO is because the mix is the same as the broadcast video, which to me says whenever someone got this copied to DAT it was after the sound was mixed for the video and probably from a mixed video/audio source. Obviously whoever did the production would've done a seperate recording for audio from the board and then the video, and then added them together, and personally I think that must be whre the DAT is dubbed from. Surely there wouldn't have been a way for someone to dub the audio pre-video, and if they did it likely wouldn't have the same mix as the video, same length etc. I don't know, it's a tricky one.

I agree with your assessment Simon though I'm no expert. It's a fantastic recording anyway and many thanks for sharing this. Very much appreciated

Yeah I don't think we'll ever know for sure unless someone who knows about the recording comes forward but I think for now I'll leave it as PRO #1b, it just makes more sense seems as it's the same mix at the video.

    Anyway, missing three tracks:

Would someone have the three missing tracks that were officially released somewhere, please?

The same thing about Manchester 97, See You and I'll Stick Around are missing on my copy and no luck to find them since years now.

    Thanks by advance. :)

Sorry for insisting but could you please upload SBD1 of Manchester 1997/05/25 show? I've looked for the two tracks that were officially released since two or three years and no luck to find them. :)

    Thanks by advance. :)

By the way, talking about the name of the venue, according to Wikipedia, it seems its name was Manchester Apollo in 1997 and not Apollo Theatre.
