Session Information
Grohl became aware of Chan Marshall, the woman behind Cat Power, in the late nineties. “She's kind of cool. She's a girl with the most delicate, seductive, bluesy gospel voice and she sings these fucking heart-wrenching songs, so amazing,” he said of the singer-songwriter. Her 2003 album ‘You Are Free’ was engineered by Adam Kasper and it was via this connection she was able to invite Grohl to guest on the record. He would record drum tracks for the songs ‘Speak For Me’, ‘He War’, and ‘Shaking Paper’, also playing bass on the latter. The album was recorded sporadically over 2002 and saw release in February 2003.
