Session Information
As part of their European tour the band were booked to record tracks for the longstanding '2 meter sessies' radio and television show, well known in The Netherlands. Artists would spend time at a recording studio and then after editing, mixing and mastering a selection of the songs would be aired on national radio and Television.
The band were at the local studio for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, focusing mainly on seven tracks. Several takes were recorded for most songs, some only partial, some in full each time. These were 'Ain't It The Life', 'Big Me', 'Everlong', 'Floaty', 'Learn To Fly', 'Next Year' and 'Stacked Actors. Other tracks were also jammed on or attempted at recording during the session including short jams on the covers 'Blackbird' (The Beatles), 'Sister Europe' (The Psychedelic Furs), 'Whip It' (Devo) and 'Wicked Game' (Chris Isaak). Parts of the songs 'This Is A Call' and 'Live-In Skin' were also played, but not in full.
All tracks were recorded with Dave and Chris on acoustic guitars but Nate played a normal solid body bass guitar. Taylor played with wire brush drum sticks, to keep the drum sound soft.
During recording of 'Next Year' the song began with Taylor on the Mellotron before switching to the drum set mid-way through. At times in the session Dave switched to the drums with Taylor on guitar, although it is not believed any complete songs were recorded in this manner.
During a break in recording Dave gave an interview with host Jan Douwe Kroeske, discussing the tracks played during the session. The running order of recording is not known, the tracklisting above merely in alphabetical order.
Of the six Foo Fighters songs known to have been recorded in full, five were selected for eventual broadcast. The track not selected was 'Stacked Actors'. The jams on 'Blackbird', 'This Is A Call' and 'Sister Europe' were also broadcast.
